The Sweet Potato Apple Streusel Cocktail
Celebrate the heart of fall with the next cocktail up in the Baker’s Dozen, the Sweet Potato Apple Streusel. This drink captures the essence of autumn, blending the earthy sweetness of sweet potatoes with the crisp tartness of Granny Smith apples, all complemented by a medley of warming spices—a slice of harvest in your glass.
THE COMPONENTS
SWEET POTATO SYRUP
A rich, sweet concoction that infuses the earthy flavors of sweet potatoes with the aromatic warmth of cinnamon and a hint of vanilla.
INGREDIENTS + METHOD:
Peel and juice 2 large sweet potatoes, weigh and reserve.
Toast 10 cinnamon sticks until aromatic.
Combine sweet potato juice with cinnamon sticks and add the same amount of demerara sugar as sweet potato juice in weight.
Finish with a tablespoon of vanilla extract (we like Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon) before straining.
SUPER APPLE
A zesty, refreshing apple juice, boosted with citric acid to maintain its vibrant flavor and color and add an extra boost of tang.
INGREDIENTS + METHOD:
Dissolve 40 g of citric acid in a splash of water.
Juice cold Granny Smith apples into the citric acid solution.
CINNAMON OATS
This delightful garnish offers a crunchy bit atop the cocktail's foam, imparting both sweet and spicy aromatic notes.
INGREDIENTS + METHOD:
Coat oats with olive oil on a baking pan.
Sprinkle with powdered cinnamon and demerara sugar.
Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
BUILDING THE SWEET POTATO APPLE STREUSEL COCKTAIL
Create a layered symphony of autumn flavors.
INGREDIENTS + METHOD:
+ 3 dashes Orange Blossom Water
+ 1 oz Sweet Potato Syrup
+ 0.75 oz Acid Adjusted Granny Smith Apple Juice
+ 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
+ 1 Egg White
+ 1 oz Heavy Cream
+ 2 oz Vodka
+ 2.5 oz Club Soda
Combine all ingredients except club soda and emulsify with a milk frother.
Add ice, shake, and double strain into a chilled Collins glass with club soda already in it.
Garnish with cinnamon sugar-toasted oats.
